Walmart, a long-standing LPGA Tour sponsor, aimed to ampllify its Corporate Social Responsiblity (CSR) by integrating sustainability initiatives at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, held annually in September.
In 2022, Walmart and Outlyr began working to become a certified sustainable sporting event through the GEO Foundation. Leveraging Outlyr's expertise in sustainable events, the tournament minimized resource consumption, eliminated waste and limited other potentially negative impacts on the enviroment while leaving a positive legacy in the NW Arkansas community.
The GEO Foundation certified the #NWAChampionship in 2024 as a certified sustainable sporting event - only the second tournament on the entire LPGA Tour to receive this distinction.
The tournament was awarded with the Green Driver Award presented by Dow, the Official Sustainability Resource of the LPGA. In 2024, 88% of event waste was diverted from landfills with over 38,000 pounds of waste sorted into compost, recycle and landfill streams, in partnership with local waste reduction company Food Loops.
